Las Serpientes

Cor blimey, you wait all month for a snake then two come along at once. First, one of the most venomous in Costa Rica, a lovely golden Eyelash Viper, so called due to the enlarged scales above the eyes.

It looked a bit menacing, but it was resting and so behaved while I took photos.

In any case, this was a baby and could have easily fitted into the palm of my hand. Three to six deaths are reported annually in Costa Rica from their bites (snakes, not babies).

Next, another little thing (15-20cm) found under a log. I think, based on Las Serpientes De Costa Rica, that this is a species of non-venomous Clelia.
